Gam Africa Institute for Leadership (GAIL) in Partnership with TECH 4 ALL GAMBIA, present a Coding project (KidsKodas Gambia). The project aimed to provide opportunities for every child in The Gambia to be a computer literate and learn life skills. At “KidsKodas” Gambia, we teach, guide and mentor children to learn skills such as thinking algorithmically, digital citizenship, development of apps, games and websites that are interactive in a fun and sociable environment different from the boring traditional classroom setup.
VISION
To have every Gambian child grow up with computer literacy skills that make them compete in the global sphere and make us stand a chance to be creators rather than consumers of technology.
MISSION
To develop programming aptitude and guidance for kids in elementary through high school, in a practical, fun and indulging way, and nurture their interest to pursue a career in technology.
METHODOLOGY - HOW WE DO IT
We provide free afternoon and weekend programming classes, GAIL Office in Kanifing, next to the Gambia Revenue Authority office (GRA).
We place kids into three categories:
Elementary: 5 – 8 years,
Middle: 9 – 12 years,
High: 13 – 16 years.
We use curriculum tailor-made for each category based on best practices developed by industry experts in a fun and engaging manner and sometimes we have unplugged sessions to foster social relations. We adopt the Scratch software developed in MIT and widely used around the world as the best platform to introduce kids to CS.
